The High Plains is an important, but water-limited, grain production region. Sorghum is a water-resilient grain that can be grown under dryland conditions on High Plains. Accordingly, we seek to determine the environmental outcomes associated with dryland sorghum production in Western Kansas, with specific emphasis on GHG emissions, soil health, and irrigation usage while providing monetary incentives to participating farmers.

Objectives

Quantify GHG emissions outcomes for enrolled low-irrigation sorghum acres based on associated field management activities.
Quantify soil health outcomes (soil carbon and soil conservation) for enrolled low-irrigation sorghum acres based on associated field management activities.
Quantify and track irrigation usage for enrolled sorghum acres to understand impact from associated management activities.
