Mercer Wheat Sustain Program

Innovation
Active Project

Mercer Wheat Sustain is a program that collects data on fields that have wheat or has had wheat in the rotation. Requirements for this program are, fields must have nitrogen stabilizer used during a nitrogen application. Fungicide is another requirement for use to improve wheat quality. This will result in a 10 cent premium if one requirement is completed or if both are completed then .20 cents will be received. Data collected will be: Dates planted and harvested, type of tillage, all fertilizer use, stabilizer use, fungicide use, cover crop use, yield, other conservation practices used. A cover crop program will be tied to this as well, 2500 acres will be eligible on first come first served bases. A cover crop mix will be recommended after wheat harvest at a discount.

Objectives

Help with soil health related to nutrient rate efficiency and fungicide applications to improve grain quality through a pay for participation initiative.
